This episode is actually about news of the week. It was hard to ignore that Mayberry’s very own Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn was robbed this past week so tonight I’ll be giving you a report about that AND an update from Ms Lynn about how she’s doing.
We’re also going to talk about the fact that CBS will be sponsoring an actual NASCAR commemorative racecar paying tribute to The Andy Griffith Show’s 50th Anniversary! That’s BIG!

I’ve been getting a good bit of listener comments and questions over the last several weeks so I thought I would try and run through some of them this week.
I don’t pretend to be an expert in all things Mayberry so I may not have the answer to all the questions. Hopefully you will be able to help me where I fall short on being able to provide what your fellow listeners are asking for. Feel free to drop me a voice mail to let us all hear the answers you can provide.
Answers or not…let’s have some Mayberry fun in tonight’s show.

Host: Allan Newsome
Special Guest: Doug Dillard
Running time: 0:14:53
This is a short interview I did with Doug Dillard back in 1998. Doug is an amazing banjo picker and to see the speed that his fingers move around those strings is amazing. Doug has been at EVERY Mayberry Days event since it began and this year will be the 20th Annual Mayberry Days. In recent years his brother, Rodney, has been joining him for two shows at Mayberry Days.
I’ll be talking a little bit about Mayberry Days after the interview. Hopefully I can help all you fans better understand why fans of The Andy Griffith Show travel each year to Andy Griffith’s home town of Mt. Airy, NC to celebrate the fun and laughs of Mayberry Days. Ever year there are different events, jokes, skits, and new folk in town so Mayberry Days is always different but with spirit of Mayberry spread throughout.
The Dillards will be inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium on October 1, 2009.
The interview was recorded on 26 June 1998 in Kingsport, TN.

Host: Allan Newsome
Special Guest: Charles Dowell
Running time: 0:12:17
Welcome to part two of our two part interview with the owner of The Snappy Lunch, Mr. Charles Dowell.
The focus of this episode is the world famous Pork Chop Sandwich and where the idea for serving it came from. As I’ve said before, if you’re ever in Mt. Airy be sure to have a pork chop sandwich “all the way” because, as Andy might say, “They’re gooooood!”
Recorded in April 1998 in the back room of The Snappy Lunch so you’ll here dishes, pots and pans knocking against one another as the workers get orders ready.
I want to thank you for listening. Tell your Mayberry friends about the podcast if you are enjoying them. And don’t forget to leave comments or ask some questions at Mayberry.com/podcasts or by using the contact information given in the podcast.

We’ve had folks asking about the folks that live in Mt. Airy, Andy’s real hometown, and interviewing them. The last two episodes were an interview I did with Russell Hiatt from over at Floyd’s Barbershop so I felt like it was very fitting to continue the theme this week with Charles Dowell.
