Two Chairs No Waiting 93: Scooby-Doo & Don Knotts July 20th, 2010

Running time: 0:20:25
Many of you might remember Don Knotts appearing on The New Scooby-Doo Movies aired back in 1972 and in reruns every since. He was on two different “movies” that year and it was easy to tell that the cartoon character was Don Knotts.
There’s a new cartoon called “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” that just started last week and the first episode was titled “Beware the Beast from Below.” I mention this because the crowd at the beginning of the episode had standing there, front and center, the Don Knotts character from back in the 1970′s.

Two Chairs No Waiting 91: Mayberry Man of Mystery July 6th, 2010

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:12:24
Who is the Mayberry Mystery Man? That’s a question that has been on the minds of fans for years and, like any good mystery, still keeps them guessing.
Mr. Schwamp, also known as Mr. Schwump by some, is the older dark haired man you often see sitting on the bench outside the barbershop or in groups of people in Mayberry.
Over the years, every cast and crew member of The Andy Griffith Show has been asked if they know the name of the actor who played Mr. Schwamp. While all of them remember him, none of them knows his real name.

Who was “the whistler?” What am I talking about….well, there have been reports for years of folks saying “the guy who whistled the theme to The Andy Griffith Show came to my school when I was young.” The name most associated with that statement is Fred Lowery. We talk tonight about the who it was that actually whistled the theme.
The links below will give you so wonderful references about Fred Lowery who is known to many as the “King of Whistlers.” He was a famous whistler back in the 1940′s and 1950′s.

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:11:05
As you can tell by the name of this episode, we’ll be hearing about “The Andy Griffith Show starring Andy Griffith; with Ronny Howard, Carl Griffith. Also starring, Don Knotts.” Well, the announcer didn’t say that but I’m sure Andy would have liked it if he had.
In the episode “The Farmer Takes a Wife” guest staring the Skipper himself, Alan Hale Jr., as Jeff Pruitt we see Carl Griffith. Listen to this episode of Two Chairs No Waiting to find exactly who Carl is and where in the episode he appears.

Two Chairs No Waiting 79: Teena Andrews on Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. April 13th, 2010
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:13:22
A fellow fan of The Andy Griffith Show, Matthew Morgan, contacted recently to tell me that he’d seen something special while watching Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. This is certainly “inside baseball”, so to speak but big Mayberry fans will remember and hopefully enjoy our trivial meanderings through the world of Mayberry, NC.
In the season 7 episode of The Andy Griffith Show “Barney Comes to Mayberry”, yeah..it is color but stick with me, Barney Fife returned to Mayberry and happens to be on the same train with Teena Andrews, a Mayberry native returning to town for the premiere of her new Hollywood movie.
Teena’s publicity man learns she used to date Barney back when she was known as Irene Flogg so he arranges for Barn to escort her to the premiere.
Now that you’re up to speed on who Teena Andrews is, you’ll want to give a listen to find out how Teena shows up in the Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. season 4 episode called “Change Partners.”
I also want to mention Movie’s for the Blind where you can download and listen to, currently, 4 episodes of TAGS like they are audio books. I think you’ll enjoy it and it’s a great service for those Mayberry fans who are visually impaired.
