You may know the names of the Darling boys are Rodney (guitar), Doug (also called Jebbin – banjo), Mitch (bass) and Dean (also called Other – mandolin) but do you know where the name “Other” came from? I mean the name “Other” of course.

On this episode, we’ll find out.

We’ll also hear from a caller with a couple of corrections and additions to information about Don Knotts appearances on cartoons.

Many of you might remember Don Knotts appearing on The New Scooby-Doo Movies aired back in 1972 and in reruns every since. He was on two different “movies” that year and it was easy to tell that the cartoon character was Don Knotts.

There’s a new cartoon called “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” that just started last week and the first episode was titled “Beware the Beast from Below.”  I mention this because the crowd at the beginning of the episode had standing there, front and center, the Don Knotts character from back in the 1970′s.

Check out the images at the link in the show notes below and see what you think.

To celebrate episode 92 we thought it would be nice to have Floyd host the show. To paraphrase Floyd, “Ninety-two, people always talking about podcast but nobody does anything about it.”

Floyd shares a flashback with us of a time when Bert Miller dropped by the barber shop with a business idea for Floyd. Enjoy this flashback and we hope you’ll let it take you to the land of rhythm and pleasure or at least to a scene in Mayberry that we never witnessed but now we get to hear.

Thanks to Joe Gritton (a.k.a. “The Untrained Voice”) for writing our “flashback!” This episode would NOT have happened without him. Joe also wrote the flashback in episode #17 so check that out too.

Who is the Mayberry Mystery Man? That’s a question that has been on the minds of fans for years and, like any good mystery, still keeps them guessing.

Mr. Schwamp, also known as Mr. Schwump by some, is the older dark haired man you often see sitting on the bench outside the barbershop or in groups of people in Mayberry.

Over the years, every cast and crew member of The Andy Griffith Show has been asked if they know the name of the actor who played Mr. Schwamp. While all of them remember him, none of them knows his real name.

Following episode #88, Mayberry fan Gaither Harwood stayed around in the chat room (I record the show live and some folks drop by and watch the live feed) and confirmed that Earle Hagen’s son was the original finger snapper for the Theme of The Andy Griffith Show.

I had thought that Earle had told me that during a conversation so when Gaither mentioned the same fact I was excited. I had not mentioned Deane Hagen’s finger snapping on the podcast because I couldn’t confirm my information. Thankfully Gaither has a better memory than me and pointed me right to that odd fact known by few in “The Definitive Andy Griffith Show Reference” by Dale Robinson and David Fernandes (page 310 of the hardcover edition).
