About 13 or 14 years ago, when I was working for Lynchburg PD in Virgina, I believe it was him, David, I saw at a festival in Vinton, Virginia just outside of Roanoke. I always wondered why he called himself "The Mayberry Deputy" so thanks for shedding light on that -- I think I was one of the only ones not to know that...lol. Thanks for keeping the podcast going Allen. I am sure it is a lot of work but I hope the joy you get from it and our appreciation of your work help fuel you on days you may be running low. I'm glad to hear so many others express thier thoughts and appreciation. Please continue to remember me and my guys in prayer here. Violence is has been picking up around here. We believe it is partly due to the increased troop presence. We had a rocket come through our supply room just the other day too - - just so happened no one was there and no one hurt. I've been blessed to spend some time with David and Patty both as the Deputy and away from the stage. They're both just great folks and we love'em so. I wanted to add a little to the phone message I left earlier. I've really enjoyed hearing from the stars and tribute artists but I think it'd be great to hear from some real Mt. Airy residents too. This past year at Mayberry Days I had a unique and wonderful experience. I decided that I'd go into the Snappy Lunch for one of their fantastic pork chop breakfasts as everyone was waiting for the parade to start early on Saturday morning. After I'd ordered Mr. Dowell came by so I told him good morning and mentioned how good it was to see him. Well, he sat down next to me and we began to chat. He's such a nice man. He told me about the history of the restaurant, about how his family had been in business in Mt. Airy for many years. Even after my meal came he told me not to let it get cold, he didn't mind talking while I was eating! I tell you that was a real treat. I've also had several haircuts at Floyd's and visited with Emett Forest at the visitor center. I know those who haven't been able to get to Mt. Airy and meet these fine folks in person would appreciate hearing from the real residents who insipried our favorite fictional hometown, Mayberry. And as I mentioned the Miles' of Mayberry on Main are living my dream. Pulling up stakes from the Hoosier state, opening a business and living in Mt. Airy. They're great people too. I think it'd be interesting to hear their comments on how that decision has affected their lives. Thanks again, Allan for your contributions to keeping the Mayberry spirit alive.
