Remembering Don Knotts.
It was on February 24th 2006 when the world lost a wonderful man. Mr. Knotts name at birth was Jesse Don Knotts and he was born on July 21st 1924 in Morgantown, WV. He passed away at 81 years of age on February 24, 2006.
We were all sad to see Don Knotts leave us but I don’t want to dwell on remembering the day he passed so much as I want to celebrate the thing he did in life and the joy he continues to bring to millions each day through the character of Barney Fife. Sure….there are other characters he played and he deserves credit for them as well but this is, after all, a Mayberry podcast so lets talk about “Barney.”
Don Knotts left this earth in 2006 but we will never be without the love, laughter, and joy that he continues to provide us all whenever we watch him perform or remember performances of the past.
Thank you Don Knotts for everything.

In this episode, we’re going to be hearing from Bernard Fox. You know him best as Malcolm Merriweather but to non-Mayberry fans (and perhaps even to Mayberry fans) his best-known role was as the warlock physician Dr. Bombay on Bewitched.
Mr. Fox is a “fifth generation performer” and was born with the name Bernard Lawson in Port Talbot, Glamorgan, Wales. Maybe he’s distant kin to our own Floyd Lawson. Bernard has been married to his wife Jacqueline since 1961.
This interview was recorded on 26 June 1998 in Kingsport, TN. If you listened near the beginning of the interview we are interrupted by Howard “Ernest T.” Morris. The folks talking in the background are Maggie “Charlene Darling” Peterson, The Dillards (a.k.a. The Darling boy), Howard Morris, Elinor “Miss Ellie” Donahue, and Jean “the Fun Girl” Carson.

Discussion about Myers Lake guest staring in an episode of The Rifleman. The exact location where Andy and Opie walked during the opening of The Andy Griffith Show was where the stars of The Rifleman were spotted strolling.
Help us identify other classic TV series that also used Franklin Canyon..err Myers Lake for filming.
Odd Fact Known by Few
Speaking of the Actor of the Man I have an interesting bit of trivia for you.
In the episode: Runaway Kid
If you remember, that’s the episode where Andy finds himself in a dilemma after teaching Opie a lesson about the importance of always keeping your word. Opie has made a sacred trust not to divulge that his new friend, George “Tex” Foley (Pat Rosson) is a runaway. Andy must grapple with violating Opie’s trust or returning the boy to his family and explaining that there is always an exception to every rule.
Well, here’s the “odd fact.”
When Andy is talking to George about leaving for Texas, Andy is laying on the couch looking toward George who has the kitchen door wall behind him. Suddenly the double doors from the other side of the room are behind George when he says, “It ain’t?” (time 18:33) then there’s a cut and George is back where he should be. George then walks behind the couch around past the fireplace and then where the double doors are behind him from Andy’s view. Andy “Too bad that ain’t cowboy rations” and THEN Tex says, “It ain’t?” (time 19:49) exactly the same as he had said in the shot just about one minute before. The first occurrence is also a “reversed” image of the second shot. The times are from the season one DVD.
